I’ve liked dtSearch since I’ve first used it a decade or more ago. It is fast, accurate, and inexpensive (although the original under $100 price is now just less than $200.) The previous data limit was apparently 4 to 8 Gigabytes of data; the system’s capability is now claimed to be in the Terabyte range.
dtSearch® Version 7, with New Terabyte Indexer
dtSearch is very pleased to announce Version 7 of the dtSearch® product line.
New Terabyte Indexer. Version 7 can index over a terabyte of text in a single index, with search time still typically less than a second. (Version 6.x has a limit of 4-8 GB of text per index. With both versions, you can still create as many indexes as you want and simultaneously search them.)
The program has also added document caching, to speed up retrieval.
The Web-crawling Spider, Web Publishing and other features are still there, and the program can still indexd Zip files (and other formats including PDF) directly. I’m sure there have been some additional tweaks, and base price is still $199.
If you don’t have an indexer, just to be able to find the needle in the firm’s grainstack, you need one. At $200 you can hardly go wrong (although there is the absolutely free Google Desktop Search, which may work pretty well, too.
