That’s the headline from Computerworld and particularly note July 11, the actual cut off day.  We’ve seen these stories before, and have to wonder why now, considering the new version of Windows, code named Vista, won’t be out then. In the meantime, if you still have Windows 98 machines around (and we do) or even a Windows ME- based computers (we don’t….Windows Millennium Edition should have been tossed out and replaced with XP long ago), install all possible patches (which you should do anyhow) and be prepared to be cut loose.

Frankly, unless Microsoft lowers the cost considerably, I wouldn’t bother to upgrade the software. Time to bite the bullet and pick up some new hardware, which will include XP. Then, do your upgrade from XP to Vista, next years, assuming Vista does finally appear.

Of course, if you are looking for new hardware, there is the new, dual boot Mac to consider.
